What is a Shared Supportive Housing Program?

  • A shared supportive housing program provides affordable, stable housing where unrelated adults live together while having access to supportive services that promote independence, stability, and long-term success. Services may include soft skills and life skills training, community events, counseling, case management, assistance with accessing healthcare resources, and care coordination with providers. 


Is the program stable and dependable?

  •  Yes, ArValence Independent Living Homes provides a stable and dependable housing model with clear expectations, consistent operations, and a focus on long-term housing stability.

Is ArValence Independent Living Homes federally, state or privately funded?

  •  No, ArValence Independent Living Homes does not receive federal, state, or private grant funding. The program is independently operated and funded through participant contributions and private operations. 

Who is eligible for the program?

 

  • The program is designed for single adults who are able to live independently, comply with house guidelines, and benefit from a structured and supportive environment. 


Is family or child housing available?

 

  • No. The program is not currently available for families or individuals with children. It is designed for single adults.
  •  For family housing assistance, we recommend contacting The Salvation Army, religious organizations, or homeless shelters. 

How do I apply and who does ArValence collaborate with?

 

  • Interested individual can apply by completing an application and participating in a screening to determine eligibility and program fit. ArValence Independent Living Homes also welcomes referrals from social service agencies.  
  • Yes, ArValence Independent Living Homes welcomes collaboration with community organizations, healthcare providers, social workers, and case manager to support housing stability. We coordinate ongoing support while maintaining clear program boundaries and resident independence.

How are roommates matched?

 

  • Roommates are matched based on compatibility factors such as lifestyle, schedules, shared-living expectations, and overall program fit to promote a respectful household.  

What amenities are included in the program?

 

  • Amenities may vary based on location. Typically, amenities include furnished bedrooms and common areas, utilities, Wi-Fi, shared kitchen, bathrooms, laundry access, outdoor sitting area, and a clean, well-maintained living environment.  
  • We also provide a complimentary move-in ArValence Starter Pack that include trial size toiletries, toothbrush, towel, face cloth, laundry basket, bed linen, pillow, and 3-compartment storage container.
  • Household cleaning supplies are also provided. 

Is supportive housing affordable?

 

  • Yes, the program is designed to be cost-effective and affordable compared to traditional housing, while offering stability and support. The program participation fee may be set at a fixed amount, and participants may be eligible for housing vouchers. 

What supportive services are offered?

 

  • Supportive services may include job interviewing skills training, case management, counseling, assistance with accessing healthcare resources, care coordination with providers, referrals to community resources, life-skills support, housing stability guidance, connections to benefit assistance through external partners, and community events.  

Does ArValence Independent Living Homes help pay participants' bills?

 

  • No, ArValence Independent Living Homes does not pay participants' bills. However, when a need arises, we provide referrals to community organizations that specialize in benefits enrollment and financial support programs. 

How long can someone stay in the program?

 

  • Length of stay varies by individual needs, program availability, and available resources, but the model is designed to support stable housing.
